Lynn Shanks: Artist’s Statement

As a painter of landscapes and portraits, my work is rooted in a confident use of color and an expressive technique that celebrates the physicality of paint. I blend representational imagery with an emotive, textured style—visible brushstrokes and vibrant hues serve not only to capture the subject, but to stir a deeper emotional response. Themes of purity, innocence, and vulnerability are central to my practice, often contrasted with an underlying sense of quiet strength. Whether I’m painting a figure or a natural scene, I aim to evoke the beauty, fragility, and resilience present in both humanity and the environment. At its core, my work is a reminder: our liberty and our natural world are not guaranteed. They are precious, and they must be protected.

Lynn lives and works in Queensbury, NY.

Project Local is held in partnership with the Lake George Arts Project. All art sales benefit the Artist, Caldwell-Lake George Library and the Lake George Arts Project.
