Under Chapter 2.26 of New York State Education Law the Board of Trustees may enact policies that protect the safety of staff and patrons, protect library materials and furnishings and maintain order in the building. The library board and staff want to ensure that all patrons receive high quality service without disruption or threatening behavior from other people in the library.
PRIVACY
Caldwell-Lake George Library adheres to the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics:
“We protect each library user’s right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted.”
To protect your privacy, and the privacy of others, patrons must bring their library card or other form of ID to check out materials. Patrons cannot check out requested items being held for another patron without that patron’s card. All lost cards should be reported immediately.
DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR
Disruptive behavior is defined by, but not limited to: any behavior that disrupts another patron’s use of the library or threatens the safety of patrons and or staff. Patrons will be notified if their behavior is unacceptable, and if it continues they will be asked to leave. If persons refuse to leave, police may be called. Disruptive behavior includes:
- Excessive noise (loud talking, shouting); running, throwing objects; abusive language or obscene gestures; smoking; sleeping; damage or misuse of library materials, furniture or equipment.
Shirt and shoes must be worn.- Animals are prohibited, except for service animals.
- Alcohol and illegal substances are prohibited.
Children must be properly supervised. Library staff will not supervise orcare for children. Children under 10 should be supervised by their parentor caregiver at all times. Small children should be accompanied tothe bathroom . Parents or caregivers will remain in the librarywhile children attend programs such as preschool story hour. Parents willbe notified if children’s behavior is unacceptable.- Soliciting. Patrons may not solicit library staff or other patrons to donate money or time nor to purchase items.
